On Baby Melatonin

I have mixed feelings--and mixed results--with giving Tiny Boy melatonin.

FWIW to anyone else, I've been using Tired Teddies, available at amazon.  It's a 0.3 mg chewable, which is the smallest I could find.  And generally I lop of the head and just give him that part, so even less than half a dose, probably.  Let's say maybe 0.1 mg.

What I can more or less count on is that it knocks him out.  All the bedtime antics are gone.  He sleeps very deeply for the first few hours.  It has minimal, if any, effect on nightwaking (sometimes it seems like more?) and he usually wakes on the early side.  Folks at the sleep clinic said this is pretty consistent with what they find in their patients, and adults as well.

We were gone over the weekend, three nights in a hotel.  And predictably bedtime was dramatic. And went on FOREVER.  (No, I hadn't brought the good stuff with us.)  By the time we got home yesterday he was pretty much a lunatic.  I started bedtime just before 7:00. dosed him up, read to him, and by maybe 7:40 had a sleeping kid.  He woke three times in the night and came into my room at 6:30 this morning.  I will in all likelihood use it again tonight to get him back in a sleeping groove.

His actual sleep study is in two weeks. That will be interesting for sure.
